Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in Tungipara, a village in Gopalganj District in the province of Bengal in British India, to Sheikh Lutfur Rahman, a serestadar, an officer responsible for record-keeping at the Gopalganj civil court. He was born into a native Bengali family; and unlike the tradition of Arabic and foreign ancestry popular among the Pakistani counterparts, he was fiercely proud of being a Bengali. He was the third child in a family of four daughters and two sons.

Sheikh Hasina was born on 28th September, 1947 in Tungipara, a remote village under Gopalganj district, which is also the birthplace of the Father of the Nation Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She is the eldest daughter of Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Her mother Begum Fazilatunnesa was widely respected as a tender-hearted lady and for her love for the poor and needy people.

Sheikh Kamal (august 5, 1949-august15,1975) was the son of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Rehana is the youngest daughter of Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangobondhu's second son . Born at Tungipara, Gopalganj, April 28, 1954. Sheikh Jamal was the second son of Bangobondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh.

Bongobondhu's youngest son. Born at Dhaka, October 18, 1964. At the time of his death, Russel was a student of Class Four at Dhaka University Laboratory School.
